Art week is finally here! Art Basel and Art Central have come round quicker than Usain Bolt this year, and so we couldn’t wait to get down to Central to see what this year has in store for us! So, if you’re want to feel cultured or inspired this weekend, grab your squad and head down to Art Central (21st-25th March) on the Central Harbour Front or to Art Basel in the Hong Kong Exhibition Centre (March 23rd-25th).
You may have already walked down to the harbour front for Art Central already, but if you haven’t here are our favourite installations and what you can do once you’re all art-ed out!
Sharevari’ By Yuri Suzuki for Swarovski
Swarovski are back again at Art Central, but this time with London Based, Japanese sound artist, Yuri Suzuki. This installation is the main buzz from Art Central this year and explores the use of Swarovski crystal as an acoustic material by creating a mechanical, interactive crystallophone (a very fancy xylophone to you and I). Here you can make your own compositions as well here Suzuki’s unique and beautiful compositions come to life!
Hong Kong is lucky to be one of 3 cities in the world to have Art Basel come to display art from over 190 contemporary galleries all over the world! This year we loved “Snow Series”, which comprises a series of snow covered landscapes by the Rossi & Rossi gallery. Mr Kiarostami, the artist, used hyper definition in the series to make the pictures seem so realistic it was abstract.
What to do after
Secret Walls X HK Walls at Ovolo Southside
Once you’re finished walking round the installations, why not take the chance to hop on the new South Horizons line to Wong Chuk Hang to see 4 local artists from both Secret Walls and HK Wallls battle it out with amazing displays of live street art at Ovolo Southside! It’s free entry and runs from 7pm-1am!
Grab a bite at Pacific Place
Pacific Place’s Atrium is now housing a stunning multi-media installation piece from German artist Julius Popp called Bit-Fall. The piece comprises of popular buzzwords falling from a two story stature made from water droplets. Why not pull up a chair at Plait Du Jour or one of the other many great restaurants at PP and admire this amazing work!
Put your feet up
Appreciating art is hard work…for your feet! If you feel like spectating art all weekend is taking it’s toll on your feet, back or anywhere else (let’s not be embarrassed to admit it), then there is no harm in treating yourself to a little massage to bring you back round. Luckily, BloomMe has hundreds of spas in Central to help you out for what you’re looking for! If you want a place a little quieter why not check out our Hidden Gems for Massages in Central post?
