Want a manicure? It’s no secret that we at BloomMe love getting our nails done. Manicures are the perfect pick-me- up treat; they’re quick and cheap, plus they make you feel instantly more confident and happy! Unfortunately like most cosmetics, nail polishes are not exempt from animal testing and most contain fish scales and other animal products to give them that glossy, shimmery effect.

“Mummy, are you wearing Nemo on your nails?”- Linda the Cat

Even though the world of cosmetics is becoming more and more cruelty free, there is still a long way to go. In 2014 China made baby steps of progression by changing their laws by stating that companies are no longer required by law to test their products on animals to trade with China- yes, until recently companies were required by Chinese law to test cosmetics on animals in order to sell there! However, although companies are no longer required to test on animals there, the practice isn’t outlawed like in the EU, Israel and India. So even though this sounds like a huge step in the right direction, it’s also important to keep in mind that just because companies don’t HAVE to change their policies, it doesn’t mean they will. Which unfortunately means that most companies haven’t changed their practices, and therefore still test on our furry friends.

“If every eligible company took advantage of the policy change, we estimate up to 10,000 animals a year could be saved in China,” HSI (Humane Society International)
