International Women’s Day 2019 is all about one thing: #BalanceForBetter. On March 8th, Hong Kong and the world are celebrating the achievements and the inspiring journeys of our women and promoting the need for a gender-balanced society.

This year, we say the best way to promote balance and raise awareness for charities and causes across the city is to do something fun and empowering. From fund-raising cocktails to a culinary class, from celebrating the achievements of women of the world to celebrating the love of women close to us, International Women’s Day is the perfect excuse to bring #balanceforbetter into our everyday lives.

Girl Power!

Selfies For A Good Cause

International Women’s Day doesn’t just last for one day, it runs every day all year round.

This year use your social media for a better cause, and instead of posting a photo your avocado toast or your new sneakers post a photo promoting International Women’s Day and #BalanceForBetter.

Post a photo with the iconic balance pose and the hashtags #IWD2019 and #BalanceforBetter and join the global movement dedicated to change and awareness. Check out our favourite Instagram Hotspots around the city and snap your #balance photo in style.

An All-Out Girls Night

How often do we grab our best gal pals and take them out to celebrate sisterhood? Not often enough, that’s what we say. International Women’s Day this year is all about balance, and with our full schedules and hectic lives, we often neglect to spend time celebrating the most important women of all: our family and friends.

This International Women’s Day, we say the best way to celebrate is to treat the women in your life by taking them out for a celebratory meal. Ramen in Soho, Italian in Causeway Bay, even just a small sandwich in Tin Hau can mean to world to someone special to you. Book in with Eatigo to snag a stunning deal on reservations and cuisine, and use this year’s International Women’s Day to celebrate the women who influence and inspire you.

Private Cooking Class with Chef Vicky Lau

International Women’s Day is all about celebrating women and their accomplishments, and we are over the moon to be celebrating the success and accomplishments of Hong Kong’s very own Vicky Lau. Known amongst culinary circles as the French Chinese fine dining queen (yass queen!) Vicky is using her culinary skills to help raise money to empower women through The Women’s Foundation. The Women’s Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving the impactful community programs, and by promoting education and the empowerment of the female voice.

From 11 am to 2 pm at  V-ZUG in Causeway Bay, Vicky will be hosting a private cooking lesson for a class of 10 students. A hands-on, completely immersive, entirely divine class includes a three-dish lesson and a glass of Ruinart Blanc de Blancs champagne. Can’t cook without a glass of something, right?

#BalanceForBetter at Old Bailey

Looking to indulge in some custom-made cocktails and have a great night out with the girls, all in the name of charity? Who wouldn’t be!

Old Bailey on Old Bailey Street is celebrating International Women’s Day by throwing a #BalanceForBetter cocktail party with some of Hong Kong’s premier bartenders. Get ready to luxuriate in cocktails and beverages made by bartenders Masumi Tomioka from Duddell’s, and Chanel Adams from PDT- Please Don’t Tell. Using the night’s theme of balance, the mixologists will balance out the notes found in the little-known but much loved French wine-based aperitif: Lillet.

Grab your girlfriends, put on your dancing shoes, and start off the night right with a healthy balance of cocktails and charity. As an added bonus, the night will also be used to showcase Old Bailey’s upcoming Friday night Happy Hour: Book Club. What’s not to love?

Michelle has recently won the title of Best Female Bartender at the SG Magazine & Night Life 2019 Competition, so you know she has some tricks up her sleeve when it comes to drink making.  Last but not least, Yana Kamaruddin from ATLAS in Singapore, who has been bartending since high school and is said to be a master at mixing.

If these incredibly talented bartenders don’t draw you in, then you’ll be tickled pink to learn that 10% of each of the drinks purchased on the night will go to the local charity Enrich HK, promoting the economic empowerment of migrant domestic workers.
