When you’re trying to cool down from the intense summer heat, nothing is more refreshing than a freshly made smoothie. A great healthy alternative to ice cream, smoothies are an easy swap you can make that can help reduce your overall sugar intake. Much healthier than store bought juices, which are so often packed with excess added sugar, this summer smoothie is 100% naturally sweetened. Smoothies provide an excellent boost of energy, can help strengthen your immune system, and regulate your bowel movements. Among these benefits, by hiding veggies in your smoothie, you’ll notice that over time your skin will start to look clearer and your teeth whiter. Here are a couple of health benefits you can expect by incorporating more smoothies into your daily meals. Also, I’m sharing my favourite detox green smoothie recipe for you to make at home!
1. It’s an easy way to up your vegetable intake
You can easily sneak a handful of spinach and kale into your daily smoothie. When blended together with fruit like bananas, mango, and/or berries, you won’t even taste the greens at all. This is a great way to ensure you’re getting your “10 a day” servings of fruit and veggies. You’ll start to notice that by decreasing your processed sugar intake, by subbing junk food and processed snacks for smoothies, not only will you skin looks clearer, you’ll also gradually lose weight over time.
2. More nutrients leads to clearer, healthier skin
Eating plenty of fruits & vegetables is how your body gets many important nutrients that it needs, including potassium, dietary fiber, folic acid, vitamin A, and vitamin C. Potassium helps you maintain a healthy blood pressure. Fiber provides many well-known benefits such as decreasing risk of heart disease. Vitamin A keeps your skin healthy and helps protect against infections, while vitamin C helps keep your teeth and gums healthy. A smoothie is a delicious way to enjoy more of these fruits and veggies, since blending them makes them easier to digest. Plus it tastes super yummy!
3. Stay hydrated
I’m sure many of you can feel your skin start to dry out in the summer. Drinking water all the time can get boring, so I make sure to drink tea and smoothies which add variety and can ensure you consume adequate liquids. Try using fruit and veggies that are high in water content. like watermelon, pineapple, celery, melon, and strawberries. Also, I always try to go for an organic facial every other week or so, just to make sure my skin stays hydrated. Be sure to check out these top spas in Hong Kong, which all have amazing rejuvenating facials.
4. Cut down on processed food
Be realistic. You don’t need to go cold turkey on all processed foods, but try to reduce the amount you consume. Cutting back on sugar and dairy intake in particular can help to prevent breakouts. Eating a diet rich in antioxidants, found in fruit and berries, is incredibly beneficial for your skin.
5. Splurge on a special treatment
Cryotherapy is a treatment where your skin is exposed to subzero temperatures. It’s known to tighten the skin, reduce inflammation, encourage cell rejuvenation, decrease pore sizes, and improve blood circulation. If you’re wanting to cool down from the Hong Kong heat and help your skin at the same time, try a cryotherapy facial at one of these spas.
