Summer in Hong Kong can only mean one thing: off-the-charts humidity and unexpected downpours throughout the day. Although this weather is less than ideal for maintaining certain hairstyles (hello, frizz!), these summer hairstyles just might (literally) stand the test of time and, in our case, weather. For this summer, expect to see bangs and 90s accessories (think barrettes) make a comeback. We also see an interesting parallel of both wavy/curly hair alongside slicked back styles and blunt cuts. Here’s our top cute summer hairstyles for 2019!

1. Collarbone lob

If you’re asking yourself, ‘what in the world is a lob?’ don’t worry, you’re not the only one. A lob is essentially a long bob that ends around the collarbone area. This hairstyle has been a go-to for women (and one that we’re absolutely in love with) this summer as it’s fresh, fun, and looks great when styled with a soft wave giving you a flirty-feminine look.

2. Pastel hair color

Bright colored hair was all the rage last season, but this summer we’re seeing hair color trends tone things down a bit with more subtle pastel colors. Whether you’re looking to dye your entire head or are just wanting to spice up the lower part of your hair, opt for pastel colors like lilac and dusty pink – perfect options for the summer. If you’re wondering how to make your hair color last longer, check out our guide here

3. Baby bangs

Whether you love ‘em or hate ‘em, bangs are back in full force this summer. One of this summer’s popular hairstyles is baby bangs; cut halfway between the top of the forehead and above the eyebrows. This look is definitely for the bold, so be ready to fully commit to owning your baby bangs before heading to the hairdresser.

4. Accessorize

Along with this seasons 90s inspired fashion came a full revival of 90’s inspired hair, especially when accessorizing. If you decided to hold onto your butterfly clips and barrettes from when you were younger, you’re in luck – they can be seen on just about every runway. With this hairstyle, the bigger the clips the better. So be sure to find the largest barrette possible and use two to three of them in a row to clip down your bangs on one side of your head.

5. Top bun/high ponytail

Anything that gets our hair up and out of our face during Hong Kong’s hot and humid summer is a win in our book. This look can be dressed down for a day out in the city with a high ponytail or can be dressed up a little more for an office-look or for a night out by turning that ponytail into a bun. You’ll be winning with whichever look you go for with this heat-friendly summer hairstyle.

6. Wet hair

Speaking of summer hairstyles that are perfect for Hong Kong’s humidity, the wet hair look is another win. Whether you’re looking to keep this hairstyle rather simple with a swept-back look or are ready to go all out and have it look like you just stepped out of the shower (in a glossy, not greasy way of course) like Kim Kardashian at the Met Gala, this hairdo is simple yet sexy.

7. Slicked back

Taking the wet hair look one step further is this more severe slicked back trend. Typically worn with your hair up in a ponytail, braid, or bun, simply slick back the front parts of your hair with a fine-bristle comb. This look is perfect for the office or if you’re going out for the night – no amount of dancing will cause your hairdo to fall out!

8. Curly Bangs

Another bang hairstyle for this summer that we are absolutely loving is the curly bangs. Whether you have tight curls, loose waves, or anything in between, you can totally rock a set of bangs without needing to straighten them. This look hugs your face in all the right ways and is a great way to encourage those who have curly hair to embrace their look and go au natural.

9. Blunt bob

If you’re looking to cut off a good chunk of your hair for refreshing summer hairstyles, you’re in luck as the blunt bob is totally in style. This unlayered haircut falls anywhere just above your shoulders to right under your chin. Unlike the previously mentioned wavy lob, this look works best with a blunt cut and dead-straight hair that makes it chic yet sophisticated.
