“I don’t have time” is the excuse we give to ourselves when we think about getting back into shape or eating healthier. We get it, we’re all busy, and all want to look and feel healthier, but unless we start looking after our bodies it’s a slippery slope from looking like Gwen Stefani to Kathy Burke! Don’t panic though, the BloomMe Girls have come together to find you the easiest solutions that will make a big difference!

Short Cuts go a long way.
If you don’t have time to fit in a gym session or a yoga class, try to doing minor bits of exercise outside when getting from appointment to appointment. For instance taking the stairs instead of the escalators or walking instead of a taxi or MTR (within reason!). These small bouts of exercise might not seem a lot, but when its added up, you’ll be surprised what a difference it makes. Track your progress on a pedometer, whether thats a fitbit or just an app on your phone; it’s always good to see how you’re going!

Deskercise is going to sound a lot less mental, and a lot more like routine.
Some days, there simply isn’t time for a workout, but that doesn’t mean you can’t exercise at all. Though it may feel funny at first, doing exercises at your desk is a great way to sneak fitness into your day. Here are our favourites! If you don’t fancy cutting exercise at the office, try doing it during commercial breaks when you’re at home!

Be Smart with cooking and food prep
Slow cooking can be a lifesaver. Chopping up a bunch of ingredients and putting it into a crock pot the night before, switching it on before work and coming home to a delicious, homey meal? Count us in! Cooking in bulk can also be a real game changer! Cooking large batches of food at the weekend only takes an hour or two, and sets you up for a full week of meals. Just freeze portioned out meals in a Tupperware box, then microwave when you need and you’re good to go! You can even do this with your morning smoothie- just pop everything in a ziploc bag so each morning all you have to do is put it straight in the blender.

Eat snacks throughout the day

We’re advised to eat 5-8 small meals throughout the day opposed to 3 large ones. For those with a busy schedule, preparing 8 small meals a day is just a laughable task. Most of us use snacking as a way to maintain a healthy metabolism but finding affordable and healthy snacks is no easy feat in the Hongcrete jungle. We love using Chewswise to solve our snacking woes. For only $88 a week, Chewswise delivers a custom box to your home or office with 5 different snack packets in that you can customise according to your tastes. Not only are the snacks delicious and varied (so you’re never bored with eating the same thing), but the packaging is 100% recyclable so you can eat guilt free in every way! Each time you receive a box you rate the snacks so never get something you don’t like!

Make three-ingredient meals.
Especially for breakfast, easy 3 ingredient meals are so quick to make and there are so many combos and options that make simple recipes quick and easy! Using spices and chilli sauce is also a great way to speed up your metabolism, so add them in whenever you can!

For Sleeping
Make sure you don’t look at any electronic devices at least an hour before bed. No matter how tempting it might be to check just a few more emails before hitting the hay; the light from your screen tricks your mind to thinking that there are more hours in the day than there are, so you’re likely to have greater difficulty sleeping. Sound familiar? Wind down at night be reading a few pages of a good book or by having a relaxing bath. If your trouble is less to do with going to sleeping and more to do with getting up, then pop a mint next to your alarm clock. That way every time you switch off your alarm in a morning you pop the mint in to awaken your senses. It also stops you from pressing the ever tempting “snooze” button, so you start the day off productive and fresh.

Peace of Mind
Being healthier doesn’t have to mean overhauling your entire lifestyle. You can’t do it all at once, and you cant do everything. Fact. One of the biggest reasons people don’t achieve their goals when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle is that they put too much pressure on themselves by biting off more than they can chew. Take small steps, and once you’ve got each step in your routine, move onto the next goal. Baby steps, not frog leaps. It’s also important to set aside some time to doing things you enjoy. We know it can seem impossible at times with so much stuff constantly going on, but even things such as watching puppy videos on the mtr commute can contribute to a happier state of mind. Remember: mental health is still health. Don’t overhaul on fitness and nutrition without taking care of your mind too.
