It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and while we’re continuously seeing big brands in pink, charitable walks happening all over the world, and heart felt Facebook statuses telling us of the importance of Breast Cancer Research, it feels like very few places are posting about how to check your breasts for symptoms or what to look out for whilst checking.

What you should be looking out for:

A common symptom is often related to how your breasts and nipples feel. If you feel a tenderness or a lump out of the norm of your cycle either on your nipple breast and Nipple tenderness or a lump or thickening in or near the breast or underarm area that you should go see your doctor. Not all lumps are cancerous and many caught at an early stage are easily treated. The more you check the better you can be treated.

Pay attention to your nipples! Lumps on your boobs aren’t the only thing to look out for, so make sure you check the appearance of your nipples. Nipples that become swollen, inverted, reddened or that appear to have ridges or appear to have pits thats can sometimes resembling an orange peel are also concerns and should be checked out, especially if you notice discharge.

Also pay attention to how your breasts look. A change in skin texture, enlarged pores, dimples, or any sudden change of shape and size of the breasts are all concerns. Pay particular attention to whether symptoms are only happening on one side, especially if you notice a shrinkage or a sudden asymmetry in your boobs. Breasts are sisters, not twins, so it’s very common to have one bigger than the other, but if you notice that there has been a change recently, make sure to see a doctor.

The BloomMe Team have also been doing our part to support breast cancer awareness by donating 15% of revenue for every booking we received during last week’s long weekend, as well as taking part in the Pink Walk at The Peak!
