Is your juicer sitting in the kitchen crying out to be used? Do yourself a favour and jump into the magical and healthy world of home-made juices. Just don’t forget to put a proper lid on your juice canister, cleaning pulped fruit out of your bag is not the best thing to endure in the morning.

One easy way to start your juicing obsession is to head to your closest market and buy as many bananas as you can carry. Bring them home and chop them into small chunks around1 1/2 inches in length (you can pull them apart if you’re feeling particularly vicious) and then put all the pieces into a large zip lock bag and into the freezer. The chunks make it easy to throw them into the blender and save you precious moments in the morning before work.

Blend everything together, starting with the fruits and liquids and then adding any protein powder afterwards. Add the ingredients on top listed as ‘toppings’ after blending for aesthetics and Instagram purposes.

 

Green Smoothie Supreme

It ain’t easy being green, but it sure is easy being healthy with a green smoothie. Slide on into the health category of life and feel the benefits of Popeye’s favourite choice of buzz: spinach. If you want to add kale as well, keep an ear out for the added crunch in the smoothie. The mint leaves will also leave you feeling fresh as a daisy.

2 large handfuls of spinach or kale

1/2 a lime’s juice
1 kiwi
1/2 an avocado
Mint leaves
4 mango slices
1 knob of ginger
Spoonful of coconut oil
Splash of coconut water
Ice

Chocolate Lovers Smoothie

Who isn’t a chocolate lover? Stave off those chocolate cravings in the morning with a healthy choccie smoothie from heaven (or from your fridge, same thing really). With the added benefit of the banana for energy and a little bit of almond butter or milk, this smoothie is the perfect morning treat for anyone with a sweet tooth.

You’ll need: 

1 banana

1 1/2 tablespoons unsweetened cacao powder

1 tablespoon almond butter or milk

1/3 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk

Cacao nibs for topping

Dragonfruit smoothie bowl

Perfect for those humid mornings, this purple delight will have you skipping down the escalators to work. This recipe works particularly well if you are looking for something on the lighter side of things while keeping up your protein intake.

You will need:

1/2 Dragonfruit

1 scoop of protein powder (bonus points for berry flavoured)

1 frozen banana

A teaspoon of honey

Raspberries or blueberries (for topping)

Save some of the raspberries or blueberries for a topping. If you have any puffed quinoa or oats, add those as a topping for maximum aesthetics.

Coconut & banana smoothie

If the holidays are feeling a little too far away, it’s time to start a little early with a tropical smoothie. This tangy smoothie is great for detox with it’s turmeric and lemon goodness, if you don’t have any coconut yoghurt, regular is fine.

You’ll need: 

100g coconut yogurt

3 tbsp milk of your choice

½ tsp ground turmeric

3cm piece of fresh ginger, peeled

1 banana

1 tsp honey

1 tbsp oats

Lemon juice

Turmeric banana smoothie

One of the superfoods used for treating inflammation and other ailments, your body will thank you for introducing turmeric into your daily routine. Plus with the added zing of ginger, what more could you want? For super hot/humid mornings, add some ice to keep things chill.

You’ll need:

1 frozen banana

½ cup frozen kiwi

½ table spoon turmeric powder

½ table spoon ginger powder

Muesli for topping

Splash of water

Beetroot Smoothie

Beetroot looks pretty, and has a mountain of added benefits that we often skip in our day to day. It does sometimes stain your lips (and clothes) so be aware if you are leaving the house without looking in a mirror, or prepare for questions about your amazing lip stain (“it’s all natural!”).

You’ll need:

150ml almond milk
2 beetroots chopped up
Handful of berries (frozen is okay)
1 knob of ginger
1 apple (add some thin slices for toppings)
Ice
