Nails are a great source of love and pain for many women. On one hand, they can look flawless, making us feel unstoppable. On the other hand, one broken nail can ruin our mood for a full day. Constantly getting your nails done can take its toll, whether it makes them brittle and easily broken, to discoloured from polish (common if you’re partial to do them yourself), to being weak and damaged from getting hard gel nails. If you’re looking to strengthen your nails and feel like hand creams don’t seem to ever to do the trick, so here are some easy homemade remedies you can make to restore your nails back to health.
Brittle nails come with the ageing process, so you might find that as your birthdays get to numbers we’d rather not say oh so loud, that your nails become increasingly dry and brittle. The easiest way to restore your nails is to give them a quick mask around once a week. Simply add a teaspoon of olive oil to a teaspoon of honey and let the mixture sit on your nails for around 10 mins and you’ll notice a gradual difference right away. If you’re particularly partial to brittle nails, wear gloves as much as possible, especially when doing the dishes to protect them and strengthen nails quicker.
Stained nails are particularly common when you paint your nails a lot by yourself, or from smoking and other environmental factors. These are easily remedied by mixing baking soda and lemon juice together and leaving the mixture on for around 10 mins. To make sure your nails and cuticles don’t dry out in the process, apply hand moisturiser afterwards for a nourishing effect.
If you’ve become accustomed to having hard gel or acrylic nails, you’ve probably noticed that your nails aren’t as strong, or as soft as they used to be. If you’re trying to strengthen nails the best way is to go au natural for a while and lay off the gels for a few months. To help speed up the process give your nails a bath with 3 tablespoons of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice.
You can give your nails a spa experience by mixing together 1 egg yolk, 1 teaspoon of honey, water to even out the mixture and a few drops of essential oils for scent.
Weak or brittle nails are also a sign that you’re not getting the nutrients that you need from your diet. Strengthen nails easily by making sure you eat plenty of fish, nuts, seeds and yogurt to get them on the road to recovery!
